Sears Point Raceway 2002 - 19/05/2002   16/05/2002 Orbit Racing arrive back from France   Orbit Racing is ready for the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point after a successful pre-qualifying practice at Le Mans two weeks ago. Orbit Racing’s two Porsche 911 GT3RS racecars were 10th and 13th quickest among the GT-class cars during Le Mans pre-qualifying practice, held May 5. This year will mark Orbit Racing’s debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the team is already nearing the times set by the veteran teams. The one-day test was a chance for the team’s six drivers to learn the 8.625-mile track. “The track is very cool,” enthused Peter Baron, who will be driving the No 75 car along with Leo Hindery and Tony Kester. “It’s just neat after seeing the races and the Le Mans movie to actually drive it. You’re over 150 mph seven separate times at the track, and it’s fun to go that fast. The most challenging part of the track is the Porsche curves.” Orbit Racing’s car is entered as an alternate for the race. Gary Schultheis, Grady Willingham and Jeff Lloyd will be co-driving the Porsche. While Orbit is at home in the U.S. preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans June 15-16, they are heading to Sears Point for round two of the American Le Mans Series, May 18-19. At Sears Point, Schultheis and Kester will share the No 42 car, with Hindery and Baron in the No 43 Porsche. Hindery hails from nearby Hillsborough, California. He is the Chariman and CEO of the YES Network, a sports and entertainment network formed initially around the New York Yankees. As Orbit Racing’s local driver for the Sears Point round, Hindery is looking forward to driving at his home track. The Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point will be 2 hours and 45 minutes in length. The race, which will be broadcast live on the SPEED Channel, will get underway at 1:00 PDT on Sunday, May 19.
