Preview - Pullan

Pullan chases more points at Silverstone

The sixth round of the British GT Championship takes place at Silverstone this bank holiday weekend with Lincolnshire's Simon Pullan gunning for the top spot in GTO.

Pullan and his Rollcentre Racing co-driver, Martin Short won last time out at Croft to extend their lead at the head of the GTO points standings. Their TVR Tuscan R also triumphed when the British GT Championship last visited Silverstone four weeks ago.

"The car really seems to like this circuit," Pullan commented."We've got a set up that works well and is quick and easy to drive. When we came to Silverstone for round three at the beginning of May I was able to drive away from the rest of the pack. We were half a lap in front after the driver changeover and then extended that gap towards the end of the race so more of the same would be nice this weekend."

While the Mole Valley Texaco TVR Tuscan R has been the class of the GTO field, Pullan and Rollcentre Racing have been pushed hard by former champions Tim Sugden and Calum Lockie. Although Sugden's EMKA Porsche 911 has thrived in qualifying it was forced to retire early on at Croft. Lockie's Veloqx Ferrari meanwhile finished second in North Yorkshire and now lies second in the points standings.

"Calum and his team mate Jamie Davies ran us very close at Croft last weekend and their Ferrari is getting faster all the time. I have no doubt that Tim Sugden will be out to make up for his DNF but our main objective is to finish and finish well. Another podium would be fantastic but as always, the main priority for us is to consolidate our championship lead. Ideally, we'd win with the Eclipse car second so that the maximum number of points could be taken from our main championship challengers."

In addition to his British GT commitments, Pullan will make his debut in the Michelin Porsche Cup, piloting the Autosport Magazine/Porsche Cars Great Britain 911GT3 car as part of his nomination for the 2001 Autosport Young Driver of the Year Award.

"I'm really looking forward to learning as much as I can about the Porsche", he says."It's the type of thing you always dream about and will be great experience for me. It'll be a busy weekend but there's a couple of hours between the GT race and the second Porsche race on Monday so there shouldn't be any problems schedule-wise. At least I'll get plenty of track time!"
