Morgan Works Team Qualifies In Fine Style At Le Mans 1000k

The Morgan Works Race Team’s Aero 8 GT car qualified for Sunday’s 1000km Bugatti Circuit race at Le Mans today with a best time of 1 min 44 seconds, putting the team in 10th place in a class of 19 GT cars.

The Morgan was quicker than several of the Porsche GT3s, the Spyker, the Ferrrari, and one of the TVRs. In an earlier session, lead works driver Neil Cunningham had blasted in a 1 min 43.6 lap, placing the Morgan in the top 6 during the morning warm up.

Commenting, Team Manager David Dowse said:
“We are right where we wanted to be at this point. 1000kms is a long way to race, and reliability and strategy are just as important as pace. The car has been running superbly well, and the team is in top spirits. We are all really looking forward now to race day.”

Neil’s co-driver Adam Sharpe was hard on Neil’s heels with a best lap of 1 min 48 sec – a very cool-headed performance from the 19 year-old, who is enjoying his first race at the world’s most famous motorsport venue.

“Our objective here is to demonstrate credibility and strengthen our campaign for the Le Mans 24 hours race next year, I think we are well on the way to achieving that,” Dowse concludes.
