Free Practice

The lone Dyson R&S was fastest in all three free practice sessions on Thursday, the car’s best of the day a 1:10.520, eight tenths of a second quicker than the Robinson Racing R&S Judd.

Three tenths slower was the Intersport Lola, which has Oliver Gavin at the wheel this weekend, partnering Jon Field. Clint and Joel Field are in the team’s R&S (lapping in the 1:17s so far).

SRPll looks at least as competitive as the top class, where the TRV R&S and the Doran Crawford complete the top five runners – no one else looks in contention in SRP. “This car is not where our car was last year, so we are working twice as hard to get it up to speed,” said Didier Theys of the Crawford.

Andy Lally and Paul Macey had the #21 Archangel Lola in the mid 1:16s, while in the 1:17s were the quicker Porsche Haus Lola, the second Archangel car and Dennis Spencer’s Kudzu.

As at Daytona, the SRPlls had the fastest AGTs, GTs and GTSs sitting very close on pace.

Jon Leavy in Comer Racing's AGT Corvette clocked a 1:19.895, while GT was led by the Mosler, with a 1:20.709 – set in the first session. The #81 G&W Porsche was also in the high 1:20s, while the JET BMW V8 was just outside 1:21 – again in the first session. Jennings and Borcheller didn’t set a representative time thereafter.

Chris Bingham and Ron Johnson led GTS with a 1:19.030 in the Saleen. The Marshall brothers and the Schumacher / Nearn Porsches are their only rivals in this class, and neither could beat a high 1:22 / low 1:23 on the first day.

Danny Marshall, Mike Johnson and Andy Lally, Tom Volk and Jeret Schroeder, and James Weaver all took part in a visit to a local elementary school, to help explain this business of sportscar / GT racing.

Qualifying begins at 11.30 on Friday. SRP and SRPII run together, AGT runs with GTS, while the GT cars get the track to themselves.
