A Digest Of What We Missed |
|
|
John Brooks captured an LMP07 being loaded up after the 24 hours. The other one didn't look this good after a glitch in the gearchange mechanism sent Klaus Graf off at the Porsche Curves. When will we see them again?
We did keep up with that story, but there were others we missed as we focused on the race itself. Thanks to those who did keep up with other news stories.
- Gunnar Racing and GP Motorsport are likely to join the ALMS at Sears Point. Dave Prewitt should have control of an ex-Skea 911 GT3-R. Kevin Jeannette is in the process of restructuring his 2001 plans, having had to abandon his Lola 675 project. Gunnar Jeannette and his French friends salvaged an excellent second in GT at Le Mans, after possibly looking like not even starting the race at one point.
- Estoril might see Tom Coronel or Patrick Lemarie sharing the Gulf Audi with Stefan Johansson, as neither had a race at Le Mans.
- The Westward Panoz Roadsters are reportedly going to be the factory cars at Sears Point.
- Dave Sims' unusually named Lanesra outfit could be running a Courage at Estoril.
- Mugen are working on a 4 lire V8 sportscar engine, which could find a home in a factory Dome at Le Mans next year.
- All the signs are that Audi will be back next year....to complete their hat-trick. Then, presumably with mission accomplished, they'll disappear until it suits them to return. We much prefer teams and manufacturers who stay for the long haul, don't we?
- Like Chrysler, with their Viper programme, which developed into the LMP project. Will it get approval for a return next year? A potential Audi beater, or at least a car to keep the R8s honest. |
