A little bit of Le Mans will take its place in the Privilege GT Championship, as the Night Race at Silverstone on September 29 is reinstated.
British Motorsport Promoters has confirmed that this event is back on, having initially been a victim of changes / cutbacks to the PowerTour series. Other changes just announced include an untimed 15 minte warm-up for the Privilege GT cars on race morning - that will go down very well with the teams. "We have listened to the needs of the GT teams and are pleased to be able to introduce a warm-up session from the next round at Brands Hatch onwards," said Robert Fearnall, chairman of British Motorsport Promoters Ltd.
"With the co-operation of Octagon Motorsports Ltd, the GT, TVR, Porsche and Ford championships, I am very pleased to confirm that we have been able to re-instate the night race," said Robert Fearnall. "I would like to thank all of them for their support."
Racing on Saturday 29 September will commence at 13.30 and continue right through until the final round of the Privilege Insurance British GT Championship, which will start at approximately 21.00. Other races scheduled to run in the dark will be the final rounds of the Findus TVR Tuscan Challenge, Michelin Porsche Cup and Ford Credit Fiesta Zetec-S Championship.
During the afternoon, the final round of the Green Flag British F3 Championship will run over an extended distance of 30 laps. Following the GT race, the night will conclude with an awards ceremony and party to wrap up the season. All the PowerTour Championships now have a finale to match the status of the series in British motorsport. Fine weather should ensure a wonderful evening's entertainment.
From Brands Hatch on 8 July, with the exception of the 60-minute Privilege race, all PowerTour races will now run to a set number of laps rather than a time duration. The number of laps will largely equate to existing race distances.
"We are pleased to reassure teams and drivers that BMP remains committed to these championships," concluded Robert Fearnall.
