The third round of the ELMS - over 1000 kilometres at Estoril on July 15 - will be available live on Sky Sports 3, plus a highlights package on Eurosport, plus live on Portuguese terrestrial television channel RTP2 (start and finish plus two short mid-race action updates).
The ELMS organisation are demonstrating their media skills with an extensive pre-race promotional push which will include event trailers and numerous ELMS features on primetime sport shows in Portugal. In the week following the race, RTP2 will broadcast a 45 minute highlights programme covering all the action.
"The decision of RTP2 to cover the ELMS event in Estoril provides another boost for the Series, the teams, their sponsors and the growing army of fans," explains John Macdonald, Executive Director for the European Le Mans Series. "It is testament to the status of the Series that Portuguese television has committed a significant programming schedule to the event. The attraction of a major international sportscar event with a highly competitive line-up of cars and drivers will ensure an exciting viewing experience. There is the added attraction of automatic qualification for the 2002 Le Mans 24 Hours for three class winners to increase the drama of the race."
New-to-the-ELMS entries are likely for this one, to try to take advantage of the quick route to Le Mans 2002. It's too soon for the official entry list to be available.
