Withdraws From ISC |

Mike Haines confirms that his team has "reluctantly withdrawn" their two Lotus Esprit GT2 cars from the ISC. Haines' relationship with the ISC organisers has been contentious since the first round at Donington, when the team's Esprit was excluded for being underweight, despite a dispensation from the ISC organisers to run at the starting weight.
Mike Haines: "We were one of the first teams to join ISC and have tried to be one of its staunchest supporters, but find the increasingly precarious funding situation following the apparent failure of CSG's support package to have been the last straw. Unfortunately we feel that the lack of the Interactive element promised, the lack of TV promised, the lack of any prize or start money as promised to drivers and teams, the failure by the organisers to provide any single item of the promised refuelling or pit lane equipment has finally meant we are no longer prepared to commit the considerable cost and effort for no return.
"Our sponsors and our drivers cannot be asked to put up with the shambles that has arisen.
"We do feel that Interactive Motorsport is the way forward, but for it to succeed it must be properly funded, properly managed and must of course be run by people with integrity. These all appear to us to have been lacking in ISC."
It is hoped that Haines will keep at least one Esprit racing this year. Logic would suggest that the team now need time to reorganise before announcing any plans. |
