To Use The V12 |
Despite originally suggesting that "the V12 dates back to the sixties, we can't use that," Laurence Pearce is indicating that his "toe in the water exercise" for Le Mans 2002 will now use a variant of the V12, running in six litre form. For 2003, an alternative engine seems likely.
For the first stage of the LMP900 effort, the V12 would seem to be the sensible choice - reliable and powerful, probably some way from being the most fuel efficient, but a strong old unit. The same characteristics that Panoz used to use, in V8 form of course. The V12 is a reliable 40 hour engine in normal circumstances, and has finished 24 hour races already in Listers - and won Le Mans of course, in TWR form.
Wind tunnel testing of the Andy Thorby designed chassis is due to begin next month. |
