Tamas Illes is racing in his home event of the FIA GT Championship this weekend. The Hungaroring last year saw him finish in an excellent third place in a Chamberlain Viper, but this year he's in the for the full season in the GLPK Chrysler.
"I know the circuit very well. I grew up here and I have twice been Super Touring Champion in Hungary," said Tamas. "Nobody knows the place better (than me). I love the circuit and it suits my driving style perfectly."
He is aiming to get into the elite top six in First Qualifying on Saturday, to secure a spot in the Superpole on Saturday afternoon. With his local knowledge, that seems to be a real possibility.
Next stop after his home track will be Spa for the 24 Hours, and the Viper is just the car to have for 2 500 miles around the Ardennes circuit. The season could be looking up for Illes and team-mate Wim Dams from here on. |
