It would be easier to select a few names for this event if we knew who was on the entry list.
The Estoril Fashion Show, the Moda Cascais, takes place on the eve of the Estoril 1000km, on Saturday 14 July, at Estoril Casino. The ELMS organisers are "looking for six hunks (we realise it could take some time!) to drive the ladies wild! The boys will be escorted by a bevy of Portuguese beauties at this major fashion event, attended by up to five thousand people including top fashion designers and high society".
The message is, "if you're fed-up with spending your time hidden away from your adoring public in fire retardant balaclavas and helmets, here's your chance to show us what you're really made of! We appreciate that the chosen few will require plenty of notice to enable full waxing and oiling of chests ready for the big day, but if you think you have the look and can walk the walk, we have the stage. You never know whose engine you might be revving!"
For some reason, Robin Liddell's name jumps to the top of the list. What about Ian McKellar for that hunky, lorry driver look? Mike Youles for that "I still haven't given up drinking beer" rotund look? Piers Masarati for that "the Spanish boys have all got my number but I'd rather the girls did" look?
Brooksie, make sure you're there with your camera, please.
The fashion show is just one of many promotional initiatives taking place in the build-up to Round 3 of the ELMS on 15 July. An extensive television package, combined with a varied advertising and editorial campaign is now well underway for this Le Mans 2002 qualification event.
