An Almost Perfect Season So Far |

The Christophe Bouchut / Jean-Philippe Belloc Larbre Viper has had an amazing run in the FIA GT Championship. 48 points from six races, averaging eight per race, is almost unheard of in endurance racing, at least for a private team. Three seconds and three wins - who would have predicted that at the start of the season, with many of those points being earned with an engine that was discovered to be below par?
The Lister story is completely the opposite - three good races, but some awful luck at Silverstone, Zolder and the Hungaroring.
With a 20 points for the winners of the Spa 24 Hours, and Listers still looking as though they'll miss that one, lead driver Jamie Campbell-Walter accepts that, "if they win Spa, it's mathematically impossible for us."
Much will depend on that Spa result. "After Spa, we could earn a potential 40 points, so whatever happens in Belgium, we'll be going for as many wins as possible. But by that stage, Larbre can go for finishes rather than wins, so it's looking very difficult for us, however you look at it."
It's therefore looking very unlikely that the GT title race will go down to the last event at Estoril - but you'd have to say that it was unlikely that all the Vipers could get wiped out at Le Mans. This is racing - anything can happen.
