Eric Burch at American Viperacing passes on the news that Trans-Am Rookie Kevin Allen will join the team at Portland this weekend. He will share one of the privateer Dodge GTS-Rs with team owner Tom Weickhardt.
Allen found his un-sponsored Trans-Am team running low on funds last month, so he and his Team Manager Jamey Slawter made the 2000 mile trip to Sears Point in search of funding for their efforts, and a ride in the ALMS or Trans-Am Series for the remainder of the 2001 season.
Allen had tested earlier this season for AVR at Roebling Road, and also drove a Viper at Daytona in 1999, so he was a natural choice to race at Portland.
“I have been following this team’s progress all season long and I truly think that they’re just a few steps away from being a serious competitor in the ALMS series," said Kevin Allen.
Eric Burch acknowledged that "Shane Lewis has been a great addition to the team, and Tom (Weickhardt) came through with his best driving performance of his young racing career at Sears Point.
