This is Reynard's first purpose-built 675 Prototype, which is due to run for the first time in November.
The company is aiming to sell ten chassis before the start of next season, for use in the A & E LMS, the FIA SCC and for Le Mans itself. If that target is achieved, Prototype racing in Europe will be buoyant as never before.
Dick Barbour Racing are logical candidates to run two 02Ss, to replace the two relatively overweight Reynards currently in use. Lola's 'MG' chassis is the main rival, with so far only the one-off Lindsay chassis also targeting this class.
The 02S is being designed in ALMS / ELMS high downforce specification, with a low drag configuration for Le Mans. Possible engine installations include the Judd V8 (KV675) as used by Barbour, the Nicholson McLaren V8 (XB) as used in the Lindsay and the Volkswagen 4 cylinder turbo, as used by ROC at Le Mans and elsewhere. Other engine installations are possible. The tub is carbon, of course.
The Ricardo Six-Speed sequential gearbox has an Integral Pneumatic steering wheel mounted paddle shift fitted as standard, although a mechanical selection system is available as an option.
