The Kumho Euro GT Series is part of the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort this weekend, and promises more than 40 GT cars, some of them with upwards of 700 bhp. The Cor Euser's Marcos LM600 team is favoured to do well.
The Kumho Euro GT Series is the successor to the Kumho Ferrari-Porsche Challenge. The new Series is now open for makes other than Ferrari and Porsche, thereby allowing Cor Euser to compete. The van der Zwaan brothers won both races at Assen on July 15, driving the LM600.
The Series sees 3 classes, A, B and C. Class A regulations allow many modifications and is therefore the fastest class on the grid. It includes the Marcos LM 600 but most drivers rely on Porsche Bi-Turbo cars with more than 700 bhp.
Cars which meet the FIA regulations for GT cars with an engine up to 5 litres are placed in Class B, such as Marcos Mantis and Porsche GT2 in standard guise. The Class B favourite is Herman Buurman, who has won four races using a Marcos Mantis. Marcos driver Rob Knook won both races in Assen and is right on his tail.
Class C is open to cars with atmospheric engines up to 3.8 litres which are competing or have competed in single-brand cups such as the Ferrari 355 and 360 Modena Challenge, the Porsche Carrera Cup and Supercup. Jan de Wit with his Porsche GT3 is class leader, his team mate Charles Brugman is in third place. They are fighting against ex-Formula 1 driver Arturo Merzario, who drives a Ferrari 355 GT.
The Kumho Euro GT Series is supported by Kumho, ranking as number 8 world tyre manufacturer, and H&R Sportfahrwerke. Information on the Series is available using this link
