On That Larbre Win |
|

Christophe Bouchut: " I am very happy for two reasons - first of all because the FIA GT title has been settled. And then this is a 24 hour race, and it is impossible to know beforehand if we could win. This is a very prestigious race, and it is very good to win it. I won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1993 on my first visit, the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1995, also on my first visit, and now this is my first time at Spa, and I've also won. It's great.”
Jean-Philippe Belloc: “It was a very difficult race; we had a number of small problems. Christophe lost a wheel, which could have been disastrous. And we lost the radio, which meant that we could make the wrong choices. Our strategy was to be gentle on the mechanical parts. But it is great to simultaneously win the Championship and to take my first win at a race like the 24 Hours of Spa.”
Marc Duez: “Our team had definite potential, but we had some very strong opponents, not least being the weather. It's a shame for Carsport, but I'm very pleased for us. It would be great to have this sort of crowd at every round of the Championship. So far, I have no plans for the rest of the Championship.”
That crowd was counted at 90 000, which supports the view that if events are created to appeal to the fans, they will turn up in their droves. But what's it like to race against such a strong Larbre team (in a Belmondo Viper), Anthony Kumpen?
"We just didn't seem to have the pace to do anything about the lead cars, even before we hit problems. I think we have a lot of work to do if we are going to remain competitive for the rest of the year. The Larbre cars are so strong. They didn't bother with setting fast times in qualifying but their race strategy is excellent. They have Michelin tyres which are good in wet and dry conditions, and they have a lot of support from Oreca. Even their mechanics are hird from Oreca. It's basically a factory Chrysler team. That's good for them but not for us!"
