Things Do Go Wrong - Very Occasionally |

The Capello / Kristensen Audi was ruled out of the Portland race after a failure of the switching mechanism for the Ricardo sequential gearbox.
Rinaldo Capello (#1): "Tom told me about the shifting problems when I took over the car. It got even worse after a while, so we had to pit again and work on the car. Often our team makes miracles come true but this time they had no chance because we lost too much time. But we will come back."
So the Audi R8s aren't quite perfect - not quite.
NB. The Vauxhall Astras have won 16 consecutive BTCC tintop races, but there are four of them, and they're only little sprint races, so any comparison is invalid. 13 consecutive major sportscar race wins - come on Janos, what was the record before?
PS. John Elwin reminds us of Johnny Mowlem's record in the Porsche Cup. He won every race in, was it '98? Was it 16 or 17 races?
PPS. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly someone pops up with the right answer. Thank you Paul Valentine. "In reference to the point made in the news article about the Audi failure, concerning Johnny Mowlem, I remember his domination of the series greatly and, in fact, it was 1997, and he won 17 out of 17."
PPPS. John Hindhaugh points out that the Can-Am McLarens won 17 in a row.
