Riley & Scott Mk lll C |
Revised car due in March 2001 |
|
With the Cadillac project behind them, Bill Riley and Mark Scott have turned their attentions towards a new generation Mk lll sports car, the Series C, for 2001. Riley & Scott describe the Series C as "the first major redesign of the most successful open top prototype in the modern era."
The new car should be ready for testing in March 2001.
"We have confirmed orders from two established sports car teams and we're actively seeking additional orders," comments Bob Riley. "The Mk lll is a proven product with an enviable history of success, including 41 wins from 79 starts in less than 5 years of competition. The Series C is set to build on this winning formula, drawing on our wealth of experience and expertise."
The Series C design will feature:
a new body for maximised aerodynamic efficiency
a revised engine position to lower the center of gravity
a new Xtrac gearbox
either Ford or Judd engine installations
a single roll hoop configuration for the ALMS Series, or double roll hoop for the Grand Am Series and SRWC
the same steel tube and bonded composite panels construction as the Mk lll
Bill Riley heads the design team for the new car: "The Series C uses the current Mk lll as a base point in the development of this new product, along with the new technologies and resources that we have at our disposal for research and manufacture. Our design will reflect the knowledge and expertise that we have gained over the last five years."
Mark Scott: "Our customers asked us to apply the lessons of the last few years and we have taken up this challenge. With the important criteria of cost efficiency and competitiveness, the new Series C will fulfill their requirements for a new sports car to race in 2001 and beyond. Rule stability and the growth of sports car racing in the USA, Europe and further afield, make these goals realistic. Le Mans 24 Hours is also an opportunity for the Series C and we would be proud to see the car running at this prestigious event." |
