McLaren Vs. Audi |
Winning Streak |
|
John Hindhaugh has been digging into the records and reveals the following:
"The Team McLaren Can-Am winning streak was a bit longer than we thought and began in 1968. After John Cannon's win in the rain at Laguna Seca, Team McLaren won Riverside (McLaren) and the Las Vegas (Hulme) finale. That's two.
"Then Team McLaren won all 11 races of the 1968 SCCA Can-Am season. Mosport (McLaren), St Jovite (Hulme), Watkins Glen (McLaren), Edmonton Hulme), Mid-Ohio (Hulme), Road America (McLaren), Bridgehampton (Hulme), Michigan (McLaren), Laguna Seca (McLaren), Riverside (Hulme) and Texas (McLaren). That's 13 straight.
"In 1970, Bruce was killed testing at Goodwood, but Team McLaren picked up where they had left off with Dan Gurney winning Mosport and St Jovite. Hulme won Watkins Glen Edmonton, Mid-Ohio and Road America. That was 19.
"It stopped at Road Atlanta when Tony Dean's 908 Porsche won a fluke victory. Hulme crashed lapping traffic and new hire Peter Gethin went off on someone's oil."
Thank you John. Now, what we still need to know is - what progress are you making with your internal decorations? Have you finished the Gold Leaf Team Lotus room yet? What about the JPS room? Congrats. on bringing Portland to the masses - great racing, great commentary.
