The Rollcentre Racing with Mole Valley / Xavex TVR Tuscan R was sporting some modifications at Knockhill, ready for its international debut at the Suzuka 1000 Ks this weekend.
All the wheels now have a centre-lock system, designed to allow rapid wheel-changes (only the fronts were modified at Donington, the rears before Knockhill). Previously the car had five standard nuts per wheel, as tyre changes are rarely needed in the one hour race format, but will be essential in Japan. Martin Short was impressed with the system, designed and built in-house.
There are also two fuel fillers in the roof of the car, again very neatly executed to comply with the demands of endurance racing.
"I’m sure there’s a lot of other changes as well, but I can’t remember what they are," 'explained' Martin. As promised, the car was dismantled immediately after the Knockhill race, ready to be shipped off to Japan. "I’ve had a lot of help through the Racing-Talk Forum with the logistics when we get over there. Come the race itself, we intend to set a conservative pace, to complete the race and do at least 70% race distance." Martin Short and Rob Barff driving conservatively on an international stage? We’ll see. Richard Stanton c-drives with the usual pair.
