Currently, Ian Flux's racing record stands at 499 races and 99 wins. His 500th race will be this weekend at Donington Park, in Mike Millard's Rapier 6. From Graham Hill's 'gofer' to 100 race wins in...quite a lot of years. Fingers crossed that the Rapier 6 has a good run at home.
Has anyone driven more race cars than this man? "I owe a lot of people thank yous, especially to all the car owners who have let me loose in their pride and joy, which I have usually returned with most bits still intact. Also, to all the mechanics, marshals, and engineers who have worked endless hours for the cause."
Sam Smith adds this look at Fluxie's Favourites:
Favourite car raced: "Lola T530 Can Am."
Favourite car tested: "Michael Schumacher's 1994 Benetton Ford."
Favourite circuit: "Brands GP."
Best atmosphere to win: "Brands Indy Circuit."
Best place to celebrate a good day: "The Kentagon in the 80s with Brian Jones and 'Webby'."
Worst shunt: "Oulton Park - Island Bend 1998, in a Tuscan, very lucky."
Proudest moment at a race: "British Grand Prix 1991 in a Jaguar XJR15 when I finished 3rd in an invitation race. I remember that I was leading and on the way to picking up the prize of a brand new road going XJR15 and thinking that I would order mine in pink to really p*** Walkinshaw off!! When I eventually finished up on the bottom step of the podium, everyone was chanting F-L-U-X-I-E....even the marshals!!"
