Bill Riley, designer and builder of the R&S MKlll C, is pleased with the showing of the Dyson car at Mosport. He credits the testing acumen of both James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger with helping the development of the car along. “We worked on getting more downforce in the front primarily. We spent time in wind tunnels to get that. The downforce is probably equal to, or more than the competition has right now.
“A few small bits were changed in the rear but nothing substantial. It really was more of a case of finding the best set up. The things we are working on now are mostly set up issues. Butch Leitzinger and James Weaver have told me they like the way the car feels and the changes we have made.”
That was apparent in the way both of the drivers dealt with traffic at Mosport, showing absolute commitment as they hustled past the GTs - and the Cadillacs; Leitzinger's pass of Wayne Taylor towards the end was a classic moment, including a classic, old-fashioned gesture from one to the other, and then a spin on the marbles by #16.
“If things go as well as this race, except for my little mistake at the end, we expect to go after next year’s schedule full stride. We are very optimistic about it,” remarked Leitzinger.
So it's on to Mid Ohio and the Petit Le Mans for the Dyson Team and perhaps a podium placing. Next season they should find the modified and improved 74 Ranch - Robinson Racing MKIII C right alongside them on the track - as well as a third 'C' in the hands of a team to be announced soon.
More about this will be appearing in the next issue of All Race Magazine. due out this Friday. Look for Andy Hartwell's column, "Through The Esses" in issue #32.
