Max Crawford's team has been putting in the hours to bring their vision of a competitive sports racer - named the Crawford SSC2K - to life. The work continues at the Crawford Composites shop but not all the pieces are coming together as planned. Max reported there is currently a supplier concern that will cause the team to miss their first deadline of bringing the new chassis to the final Grand Am race of 2000 at Watkins Glen. Crawford: "Sometimes you just can't make something go the way you want it to and that can be frustrating. But we are working through this and, aside from that problem, we are very pleased with the way the car is coming out."
It should be very interesting indeed to see how this product of American labor and European intellect competes with the likes of the BMWs and Audis. If the problem passes and they can get on the track this year, Max Crawford will start the 2001 season with a car that has been sorted out and made ready for what the competition unloads from their transporters. With a bit of good fortune, and even more long days at the shop, maybe some of the other guys will also be unloading cars with the words "Crawford SSC2K" on the side! Crawford: "Teams do have choices these days, but we wouldn't mind it at all if our car was their choice!"
