Literally in a class of its own, the 1993 BRDC-GT Championship-winning G-Force Porsche 935 is making a very rare appearance at the Silverstone Historic Festival this weekend.
Team owner John Greasley says the team has been sadly underemployed this year. “We are basically doing nothing at the moment. We’re a race car preparation outfit, so unless somebody wants us to run a car for them we can’t do very much!”
Any chance of bringing out the 911GT1 for Daytona next year? “The car is sitting in the garage. If somebody has the £250,000 budget for the race, we’ll be there!”
Running the 935 for his own pleasure this weekend, John is not expecting too much from the race today. “We’re aiming to finish,” he laughs, “we qualified 32nd (out of 35) in a car that basically hasn’t run for eight years, so we can’t expect too much. We’ve had no major problems in qualifying.”
John will be sharing the driving time with Nigel Barrett, and both are hoping to drive for an hour. Heat may be a factor, however. “It will be hot in the cockpit,” says John, “I’m glad it’s an evening race!”
As a footnote, Calum Lockie was present in the G-Force pit, and was greatly admiring the 935. “What a beast!” he said with a smile. Calum’s better half, Melindi, credited this car with transforming the BRDC-GT Championship into the showcase series it has become.
