BMS Scuderia Italia have always been favourites to get their (European) hands on a couple of Chrysler LMPs, and with the clear news imminent that Chrysler themselves will leave the running of cars in the Oreca name next year, thereby encouraging the sale of further chassis, BMS are suggesting that they will run two in next year's Championship. That could be alongside their two Ferraris, one of which still looks likely to carry Marco Zadra to this year's title. Differences of opinion over restrictors for the 333 SPs' V12 don't seem to have put the team off continuing to run them.
The other Ferrari chassis - the Brums with the Judd V10 - won't be at Mondello Park this weekend after a troubled Donington Park, with tranmsission problems.
A desire to open up the series to manufacturers seems to have fallen on stoney ground. Audi have made it clear that they have no wish to see their cars' technological advances negated by smaller restrictors.
One gentleman team owner in the UK is also indicating that he has no desire to see his new prototype running any slower than its maximum potential.
The Redman Bright Reynard hasn't run in the full series this year, and the team are likely to focus on Le Mans and the ALMS in 2002 - with two examples of the new 675 02S Reynard. That's good news for that class, not good for the FIA SCC, which now welcomes 675s (the Lindsay could run in South Africa this year). |
