TotalMotorSport understands that any development of this car (LMP07) will not take place - not for next season, not at all.
Any arrangement between Zytek and Elan Power Products for any joint development of the 4 litre V8 or the 6 litre in the Roadster S will not take place: rather EPP are going their own way with refinements to the 6 litre.
Simultaneously, the Roadster S will be developed for next season, with a new gearbox and some wind tunnel work. Andy Thorby's (hurried) conversion of the original GT1 still seems to have considerable life in it, and it should carry Panoz Motor Sports as far as the proposed rule changes in 2004.
Based on the S's achievemnts in the last month, it should have the potential to carry on this long - to eventually (if not already) be regarded as a classic machine of its type, much as the Lotus 72 was in F1. Yes, before you complain, dear reader, it's not as technologically advanced as the 72, but it is distinctive, it's different, with a long development path - and a (front-engined) thing of 'beauty' in its own right.
Poor old LMP07 could have matched up to these requirements, and there was hope initially that it would. But it won't. |
