Martin Short may not be that interesting - yet - to international readers, but UK GT fans must surely recognise by now that when Shorty is about, things happen. He undoubtedly gets more coverage on this site than most, but perhaps he deserves it. We know all about the successful trip to Suzuka, and that was always likely to have an impact on the next Rollcentre race, at Thruxton on Sunday.
Sure enough, six hours at Suzuka, no problem: Qualifying at Thruxton, problems. The throttle cable broke, losing them most of the first session, the second was hotter and times were slower, then the engine failed in a very big way in the race morning warm-up.
The crew set to to complete a five to eight hour job in less than three, and they nearly made it. The race suffered for the lack of a Barff / Short performance, and in reality it was a fairly routine affair, at least in GTO. That's a rarity based on the 2001 races.
There can be little doubt that there's a group of people in St. Ives who are now working hard to try and make it a Brands Hatch double for the green Tuscan R.
(That's the fresh engine going in from underneath, yesterday at lunchtime). |
