"I thought I'd better give him plenty of room, wherever he was, so I took an odd line through the Chicane. I gave it a bootful on the way out, and on cold tyres, round I went."<BR> <BR> Facing the oncoming traffic didn't look much fun. Then, "I didn't want to risk using reverse in case I damaged the 'box, so I beckoned the marshals to push me back." Ending lap two, Warnock was 38 seconds back from the leading Hayles Viper, but a radio message from Laurence Pearce - "YOU'LL HAVE TO GET YOUR HEAD DOWN DAVID BOY" - had the desired effect (although it probably wasn't needed in the circumstances).
