This is a fairly unusual position to be in (David Warnock) if you're still planning on winning a motor race - before you've even crossed the line at the end of lap one.
Pressure from Rob Wilson in the Viper - "He told me he'd missed a gear" - saw the GTS-R take a wide line into the Chicane at Thruxton yesterday, at which point David Warnock lost him in his mirrors. "I thought I'd better give him plenty of room, wherever he was, so I took an odd line through the Chicane. I gave it a bootful on the way out, and on cold tyres, round I went."
Facing the oncoming traffic didn't look much fun. Then, "I didn't want to risk using reverse in case I damaged the 'box, so I beckoned the marshals to push me back." Ending lap two, Warnock was 38 seconds back from the leading Hayles Viper, but a radio message from Laurence Pearce - "YOU'LL HAVE TO GET YOUR HEAD DOWN DAVID BOY" - had the desired effect (although it probably wasn't needed in the circumstances). He did, and Mike Jordan was looking a winner before Tim Harvey collected a puncture in the Viper.
One third place will secure the GT title for Jordan and Warnock. |
