Mike Youles and Robin Liddell cannot yet be crowned EMLS GT Champions, but that is the likely scenario in about four weeks time. For Mike Youles, this is an appropriate moment to step back from this level of racing.
"I'm not going to drive in a similar championship next year. When you get to my age, it's hard to find the commitment to be as competitive as I used to be." He's been a touch frustrated at being a little off the ultimate pace in sprint-type races, but the man has created a real impact with his 24 hour efforts this year. At both Daytona and Le Mans, he was a driver in his element. "The worse the conditions the more I like it. The Championship - if we get it - will be great. The 24 hour races were great fun."
A party on Sunday night in Italy was great fun too. Drive hard, party hard - but now it will be mainly work hard. "I'm still keeping my licence though, and will be doing some club racing next year. And if the right offer came up for Le Mans...." |
