BMW Restrictors |
Debate At Laguna Seca |
|
|
A brief news item from Tom Kjos to open up proceedings from Laguna Seca.
Weather is not a factor here at Laguna Seca on the Monterey Peninsula. The news at this round is the apparent restriction of the BMW M3 GTR by the ACO. It was reported earlier in the week that the ACO had decided to reduce the restrictors on the 4.0 liter V8 to 29 mm from the current 31.4 mm. We say current because the four GTRs are now on the track for the first testing session of the weekend with their 31.4 mm restrictors still in place.
ACO representatives only arrived here this morning, and by 11:00 local time they were meeting with “the manufacturer,” meaning the Schnitzer and PTG teams. The word that came at 12:05, just minutes before the first session, was to go on the track with the original, larger restrictors. Surprised, we asked Albert Biermann, M3 GTR Project Director for BMW Motorsport, why. “We’re still in discussions.” He said. What will happen? “It has not been decided,” he added.
