Robin Liddell has had quite a season already, even before his FIA GT debut at the Nurburgring on Sunday. The ELMS GT Championship cannot be completely decided until after the Petit Le Mans, but he and Mike Youles are looking secure to say the least.
His ELMS efforts caught the attention of the right people, and his race to second place in Germany last weekend seems to have done his career no harm. "I'm doing the last two rounds of the FIA GT Championship (Jarama and Estoril) with Freisinger Motorsport. Jarama might not be with Stephane, as he has a clashing Supercup race," explained the Scot.
"I know that he feels that we developed a strong working relationship at the Nurburgring. We'd both like to carry that on."
Ortelli himself was full of praise for Liddell's efforts. "Robin really impressed me. He was catching up with the N-GT leader. We came second, so close to first...I am very proud of him."
The weather made the build-up to raceday less than ideal for someone making his FIA debut - with a new team, and different tyres. "Because of the ever changing conditions, I didn't ever feel really comfortable in the car until the race," explained Robin Liddell. "The construction of the tyres is different to what I'm used to; you get a different feeling at the limit."
"The race was my first consistent run in the car. It was still damp off-line for the first 10 laps or so, and I had a moment getting past Jurgen Alzen, but then I closed in on Philipp Peter from 15-20 seconds down to two at the flag. I was disappointed with second - really for the team, who have second places all over the place this year. But they seemed very happy with what I'd achieved."
Roll on Jarama and Estoril - and some warm weather.
