So how does a driver decide where and what to race next year?
Michael Mallock (seen with father Ray, above) is still only 18, but has ambition. He explains his options. "At the moment the best endurance racing in the world is in the ALMS." He already has an offer to compete in the ALMS next year but "I am not able to discuss this at the moment, but I will be have a very high profile test in the coming weeks. Then it should all become clear!"
Regarding the ALMS, "they seem to have all the bases covered for a good championship, ie. close racing, manufacturer support, decent crowds, and good media coverage. The championship is at the forefront of sportscar racing and as such that's where I want to be."
"As a professional driver I need to be putting myself in the right place to let the right people see what I can do. Getting a seat with a decent team in the ALMS will show the people in the know how quick I am and act as a showcase for my ability and commitment."
"I want to be a pure Sportscar driver (ie Prototypes), (but) should I end up in a GT or GTS car next season at least I will be constantly in front of the LMP team bosses. Whereas in Europe the types of racing are in different series, therefore making it more difficult to get yourself known about the paddock. In the ALMS I know I can do the job, and prove to everyone what I can do."
He's looking at other options though: "As well as the ALMS, I am continuing to explore other opportunities of course. the FIA Sportscar series is excellent and I think will become stronger, and the British GT (series) also has good reasons to keep me there. I'm looking at the FIA GT too, but I will take this offer seriously and aim for the ALMS first and foremost."
