Claude Yvens was in Frankfurt on Tuesday and witnessed the official launch of an all-new Le Mans contender from Holland. The road car was apparently presented in Birmingham and Amsterdam last year.
The replacement image (above) is the race car. More details at this link.
Next year's Le Mans 24 Hours could see a two car effort from Spyker, the compamy having teamed up with former / current Viper driver Hans Hughenholtz.
More details, from Claude Yvens.
The C8 Double 12 shares its (aluminium) chassis with its roadgoing twins, the C8 Spyder and C8 Laviolette.
The name Double 12 refers to the 24-Hours endurance record set by S. Francis Edge in 1922 at Brooklands with a Maybach-engined Spyker C4. Well, not a thorough 24-hours record, though, since the Brooklands track could only be used in daytime. The record-breaking attempt was spread over two days, hence the name Double 12.
On the technical side, the Spyker C8 is powered by an all-aluminium Mader-engineered 4,0 litre V8. This engine boasts 620 bhp without restrictors and 480 bhp with two restrictors fitted. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual device, "without electronic intervention" if we are to believe the C8 press kit. The chassis is of the space frame type, all-aluminium and hand-made in a new factory that will be operational within two weeks.
As far as the Le Mans effort is concerned, one car will be entered by Spyker themselves, (t.i. Victor R. Muller) and the other by Hans Hughenholz.
