26 cars around the Brands Indy track on Sunday was always likely to create a few dramas, either during the race or afterwards. There were problems over possible overtaking under yellow flags and leaving the pit-lane through a red light. Martin Short seems to have been involved in both types of incident, but he has withdrawn his protest.
Short explains that, "Kelvin (Burt) and myself had a terrific battle, and whether Kelvin passed under a yellow or not now makes no real difference to the outcome of the race, and to the fact that we raced nose to tail for 40 minutes, passing tens of cars in difficult circumstances, both of us being very careful not to pass under a yellow. I know that if it did happen, it was not a deliberate act.
"I myself was guilty of an infringement in that I exited the pits past a red light. I did not see this myself, as I was wedged underneath Kelvin's bumper. Therefore it would be churlish of me to continue with this protest.
"It was a shame that Kelvin and myself were separated in battle, as I feel quite sure that it would have been a grandstand last lap finish."
These two put on a terrfic scrap, the two cars never separated by more than two seconds throughout seventy odd laps of the 1.2 mile track.
