"Hayles Racing has only been in existence for 10 months, so we haven't done badly, have we?"
That was Mrs Liz Rose's reaction to securing the Privilege GT Teams Championship yesterday - thanks to Tim Harvey's efforts in Qualifying throughout the year. Liz Rose is third from the left in the photograph, with fellow team owner, son Curtis, on the left.
"The drivers have all been wonderful, and we've had a lot of fun. Tim (Harvey) and Rob (Wilson) argue about everything, but along with Stephen (Day), Curtis couldn't have had better people to learn from. Stephen coming in towards the end of the year has been fantastic."
Liz expressed her thanks to "Hugh Chamberlain and all his mechanics for the job they've done with the car." She wasn't prepared to say what the team will be doing next year, "but we're looking at all the options."
The squabbling between Tim Harvey and Rob Wilson carried on through lunch, the former dropping prawn heads into the latter's coffee!
Curtis Hayles is the calm one in this crowd, but he's had a very encouraging year. "Since Stephen arrived, my driving has really come on - I've been much more relaxed. Rob has helped me a lot with some days at MIRA. I'm now well within a second of Stephen." Curtis felt that his driving really picked up from the second Donington event onwards, with Thruxton a real highlight.
Regarding racing at night, "I would certainly like to do Le Mans. We're going to try again next year."
