Mike Jordan
Is Jordan the hardest working man in British motorsport?
Driving the championship winning Lister Storm, running two of the leading runners in the GTO class and looking after several cars in the popular Porsche Cup support race, he's never still for long.
TMS readers and his colleagues in the paddock voted for him not just as the winner of the Driver of the year, but also placed him third in the Spirit of the Paddock category. That he pipped the massively impressive Kelvin Burt to the post in this category is a very fair reflection of the strengths that Jordan has displayed throughout the season.
His performances behind the wheel of the Championship winning Lister Storm alongside David Warnock have been hugely impressive, so impressive indeed that Lister boss Laurence Pearce (always a difficult man to impress) gave Jordan a run in the FIA GT Championship at the Nurburgring – the tradition of successful British GT runners showing well against continental opposition was carried on by Jordan, as he and Jamie Campbell-Walter won the race!
In a tough season in Britain, the Warnock / Jordan combo have had to fend off impressive challenges from top quality driving squads in both the Hayles Racing Viper and the factory TVR Cerbera Speed 12. That the Lister crew has managed to finish all but one race (David Warnock’s first corner accident at Brands Hatch is the cars only DNF this season) is testament to both the quality of the car and its driving squad (Mike finished 12 out of 12 last year).
His 2002 season looks equally hectic. British GTs with Warnock again looks probable at this stage, but an FIA GT campaign looks highly possible too. The Eurotech side of the equation continues too of course. An eight year relationship with the Jones twins is odds on to extend to nine next season and the outfit's record breaking Porsche Cup effort (Eurotech run cars have won Class One for the last six seasons and the overall title for the last three!) looks set to expand to five cars next season. Peter Chambers, Adrian Slater, Mark Sumpter and Jason Young will be run by the team, together with a fifth car earmarked at the moment for Jordan himself!
With the Porsche Cup moving over to TOCA next season, the team’s transporter will travel to at least 20 race meetings but Jordan is totally relaxed with such a busy schedule and eager to progress on the driving front.
Now then Mr Pearce, is there a seat available in one of those fancy new prototypes of yours next season?
PS. There has to be a story about the number of Jordan and Burt votes received, but we won't go into that!
