Tuscan R
A tight-run thing in this category saw the TVR Tuscan R edge out the Lister Storm by just a single vote, and its deadly rival the Porsche 911 GT3-RS by just six.
There were two of the very handsome new TVRs running in the championship this season and, whilst the Dennis Leech prepared #99 car of Richard Stanton and Steve Hyde has impressed with both its pace and its reliability, it was the similar #55 car, run by Martin Short's Rollcentre Racing, that really caught the attention of both the paddock and the fans.
As the early season replacement for the popular Cerbera Speed Six, the Tuscan R was obviously an altogether quicker car straight out of the box. With the fast and well matched driving squad of Short and Rob Barff, and the back-up of one of the hardest working and most popular teams in the Privilege Championship, the magic was always there whenever #55 took to the track. Its pace and its soundtrack endeared it to almost everybody and, with the #99 car improving throughout the season, it seems that the days of 911 GT3 dominance in GTO might be firmly on the wane.
The season-long Parr / Rollcentre ‘needle’ was great to watch and fun to listen to and the battles between the ‘Beetle’ of Burt and Franchitti and the ‘Kit Car’ of Short and Barff had as much appeal as GT racing anywhere else in the world.
One of the most eagerly awaited announcements in the close season will be who ‘Shorty’ has chosen to fill the gap left by Rob Barff’s departure for GT pastures new.
Well done Tuscan R. But did you have to give them such a fraught time at the last race?
