The voting for this one was unexpected, to say the least. We had a tie.
The joint winners are Laurence Pearce and TMS itself. Amanda Stretton usually gets there first, but she was one vote behind the winning duo. There, the Editor - who hates that little three letter d word - has used it for the first time ever. Every time Graham Goodwin writes 'duo', it gets edited to 'pair'. Had you noticed, Graham? Do you think Michael Cotton or Pete Lyons would have written 'duo' in the 70s? Then neither shall we!
What a contrast we find in Mr Pearce and Graham Goodwin. Hats off to the big man for creating a car and a team to win the Privilege GT Championship again. Hats off to Graham Goodwin for conceiving of the TMS Awards. One winner is big, burly and brash - but an old softy at heart - the other is a spritely little terrier, gathering and nattering around the Privilege Paddocks, leaving the Editor time to rush off to bumper car meetings.
Their partners are a contrast too: one never goes near a race track, the other has been to them all, constantly supporting Laurence's efforts. Fiona Pearce had two votes for this award, expressed as an acknowledgement for the misfortune she suffered in marrying Laurence! She even race-managed the Springer / Bailey Lister at the FIA GT race at Jarama last weekend....until Laurence's car dropped out early.
And that concludes the TMS Awards. With thanks to all who took part - in the voting and in providing a year's excellent entertainment at 13 meetings. And thanks for voting us right up there with Laurence. I think!
