But poised for what?
Perhaps only those drivers called Reid or Hughes really know what they are doing next year. Perhaps the answers won't start to be known until a television deal is announced. The parting of the ways with the BBC was presented as a positive move, because ITV or Channel 4 are likely to do a better job.
2001 Champion Jason Plato doesn't have a contract with Vauxhall for next year, and it seems likely that none of the other three Astra drivers do either. The Champion's name is being mentioned in connection with Proton - but the reality is that almost everyone is probably speaking to almost everyone.
Peugeot plans are far from clear, there may be four Lexus IS200s, there were suggestions of four or six MGs, Alfa plans aren't clear - it's all in the melting pot for now. Let's leave it for a while and see what rises to the surface.
The Astras ran in (unlucky?) blue at Brands Hatch to signify a limited edition run of turbocharged Coupes for the road.
