After seeing around 25 cars at each race thus far this season, the SportsRacing World Cup could well see nearer 40 at Brno on August 6.
The American Adventure was a disappointment, but that has no bearing on what happens next. Persuading European-based teams with European sponsors to head across the Atlantic was 'a bridge too far,' but the gap in the (SR) teams' calendar should see the bulk of the regulars heading to Brno - and then the series' spititual home of Donington Park at the end of the month - en masse. The only change of plan could come from DAMS, who may have tired of switching roll hops.
In the opposing camp are Dave Price Racing / Den Bla Avis; one of the Japanese entries at Le Mans is having a full hoop fitted, and Klaus Graf is likely to have a run in one of the cars. John Nielsen is obviously down to drive.
Conrero, Konrad and Ascari will be likely additions in the top class, and the Harrier is a possible runner. Le Mans didn't even hint at the potential of this car. Other newcomers include a device called a BGN Mota with a Jaguar engine, plus the return of the URD name, with a 3.5 litre normally aspirated engine.
The Lights class should see the full array of Italian entries from Picchio, Lucchini and Tampolli, three Pilbeams, two Deboras, the MBR and the debut of the LM3000 that was rumoured to run at Daytona, but didn't.
Is it the Central European hospitality that attracts teams, the series itself - or the gorgeous girls. Brooksie is still talking about the latter.
It seems a long time since Spa. |
