Regualtion changes for 2002 |
Door opened for independents |
|
|
The door has been opened to allow privateers teams to enter the Touring Car class next season. This year the independent teams, TMS-R and JSM, had to get permission from both Lexus and Alfa before entering their cars into the championship, but as of next season this part of the regulations has been removed.
This will enable cars such as the BMW 3 series or the Mercedes C Class to be entered as well as helping Super Production teams to upgrade their current cars into the touring class.
Other changes to the regulations for next season are rumoured to small, although it looks as if a row may be brewing over proposed plans to help equalise engine performance. Most of the attention is centred on the valves, TOCA want to limit valve size and ban the use of titanium; apparently Vauxhall and MG do not. Both Vauxhall and MG will suffer under a fixed valve size, which varies depending on the number of cylinders, as they will both have to reduce the size of their valves.
A final decision on the regulations is due soon.
