David Legangneux has been following developments at Henri Pescarolo's base at the Tecno Parc at Le Mans.
It's now official that this team will use the Courage C60 chassis and will continue with Peugeot for the engine. An evolution of the Le Mans engine has run with Sébastien Bourdais and the C52 chassis on the Bugatti track on Wednesday, September 13th, with a time of 1'34"5, the best time ever for a Courage on this track with race tyres. Peugeot & Garrett are working on a special turbo to gain engine power. The team will have more help from Peugeot than this year.
The "green C60" is scheduled to begin Bugatti track tests during October or at the beginning of November. Henri Pescarolo is looking for new partners to add to the current ones that will continue to help the team, like "Region Pays de la Loire" or "Conseil Général de la Sarthe". So there is negociations with "Mutuelles du Mans Assurances", a national but local-based insurance company.
The team's budget will increase from 5 millions francs this year to 25 millions next year. There will be eight permanent workers and a total of around 15 persons for normal races and then double for the Le Mans 24hrs. There will be again a partnership with the French Education Ministry to have young mechanics in the team.
The "old" C52 will be the second car only for the Le Mans 24hrs, with a team of young drivers, to secure a result. The C60 will be the lead car, with drivers that could be same as this year, but no names yet. The C52 will have somes changes in its back, with some C60 parts. But if the budget is able to do it, there will be two C60 for the next Le Mans 24hrs or an entry for the C52 in SRWC & ALMS races.
This team's 2001 schedule should begin at the Daytona 24hrs, then to go to the Sebring 12hrs, and the European ALMS & SRWC races. It seems that Pescarolo Sport will take part in the last European race of the 2000 SRWC, at Magny Cours. |
