Guy Smith heads for America |
Four days of testing |
|
Guy Smith heads to America this week for four days of intensive testing in preparation for his assault on the Rolex 24 Hour Race at Daytona International Speedway in February.
The 27 year-old from Hull will compete in the opening round of the ten round Grand-Am series in Jim Matthews’ Panoz Ford-engined Riley & Scott MkIIIC for the event, which takes place from January 31st to February 3rd.
“I love the Daytona track, it’s a very enjoyable race to compete in and I can’t wait to get there.”, said Guy. He added, “I know the car will be very competitive and I know Bill Riley well and I’m confident of his ability to produce a great car. The car is relatively new though and most of the others will be 3 or 4 years old, so as with all new cars, we need to work on any reliability issues so this intensive testing campaign will iron out any problems which may arise so that we can go into the race with a good chance of a strong result.”
This event will mark something of a reunion for Guy, as he again teams up with the outfit with which he competed in the 2000 event prior to his assault on the ELMS series with Stefan Johansson in the Gulf Audi and his 2001 outing at Le Mans with Team Bentley. Official testing for the Rolex 24, run around the classic 3.56 mile road course at Daytona International Speedway, will take place in early January. |
