Park Place Racing has started putting the pieces together for the 2002 race season and is announcing two of its major decisions.
The Park Place Racing Saleen S7R will return to the American Le
Mans series to run the full 2002 season in the GTS class. Park Place made their ALMS debut earlier this year when they competed at the Petit Le Mans.
"There were several determining factors that helped make the decision to go to ALMS," veteran Park Place driver Chris Bingham said. "We are really looking forward to competing the entire season next season. Between the other Saleens and the Corvettes, the competition in this series is going to be great for us. Not to mention ALMS is really where our sponsors want to be."
Bingham, the 2001 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series GTS Class Champion, will return to the team next season. Bingham will be joined by his new teammate, Peter MacLeod.
MacLeod, is a 31-year-old, seasoned road racer who has competed in the Kool Toyota Atlantic Championship, Pro FF 2000, Barber Dodge Pro Series and the Formula Dodge Championship Series. In addition, he was a test and development driver for Team Medlin Racing on the PPG Indy Lights circuit.
"Peter is a great addition to our team," Bingham said. "We recently tested at Button Willow and we had close lap times. The team thinks we will be a good match in the car."
The team is still seeking a third driver for seven of the events on the ALMS circuit.
Yokohama Tyres will be back with the team for 2002. Following a stellar year in 2001, the team feels that Yokohama is the best package.
"We worked all season last year to develop a tyre specifically for this car and after recently testing other tyre manufacturers we feel Yokohama still has the edge", said Chris. "I'm excited to be back with Yokohama for the ALMS season."
Another addition to the Park Place team is a new endorsement deal with Alpine Stars. The company will supply race clothing to the team. A familiar sponsor to the Saleen team, Gatorz Eyewear, will return as a sponsor in 2002. |
