GOOD START FOR GUY’S DAYTONA TESTING
British sportscar driver Guy Smith completed a trouble-free shakedown test at Atlanta on Tuesday (December 10th) after torrential rain delayed Monday’s scheduled run. The 27 year-old from Hull will compete in the Daytona 24 Hour race in February at the wheel of a Jim Matthews Panoz-Ford engined Riley & Scott MkIII.
“The car is great and has amazing mechanical grip. If feels very much like a big go-kart and is a lot of fun to drive. The car is in Grand Am trim, which runs less downforce than the ALMS but still feels exceptionally stable so I think we should be in a strong position for Daytona. The Panoz Ford engine is also a great engine and this should help us produce a good result” , said Guy.
He added; “The testing we have done so far has basically been a shakedown test however it has gone very well and the car ran smoothly without any problems. Andy Wallace is here also doing some work with us as he has knowledge of the old Riley & Scott and I’m sure his experience will help. We will continue to work through the test programme and hopefully make good progress in preparation for the official test next month.”
