Mike believes that, “Last year was our toughest season yet, and this one won’t be any easier with the new competition. I feel very confident with our Rolex line-up, and if we have the reliability we had last year, I think we’ll be tough to beat.”
Jeff Clinton was the 2000 Sports 2000 National Champion and ran with Archangel at 3 events last year including the Rolex. Jeff Tillman has had great success in the SCCA Spec Racer Class, and drove with Archangel at Watkins Glen last year. Curtis Francois has experience in SCCA Formula Continental racing, and tested with Archangel over the summer. Larry Connor is a reigning back-to-back Formula Atlantic Champion, and drove with Archangel at Watkins Glen Last year.
The DNTL car will have all new drivers to the Archangel Team. In a joint effort with ALMS LMP675 Team Knighthawk Racing, Steve Knight and Mel Hawkins bring vast prototype experience from two seasons of ALMS competition. Brian DeVries is a very active vintage racer and currently drives a Nissan GTP car in the HSR class. Finally, 22-year-old Chad Block, who won 2 poles and 1 race in the 2001 STAR Mazda North American Championship and also was nominated, “Rising Star of the Year” by his fellow team owners. Mike Johnson had this to say about his new star, “I expect great things from Chad, he took to the car very quickly in testing, and will be a treat to watch at the race.”
Archangel Motorsport Services will continue with Jeff Clinton, Jeff Tillman, and Curtis Francois for the remainder of the Grand-Am Season in the Budweiser Nissan/Lola.
