Team Petronas Syntium Proton confirm that Phil Bennett will join David Leslie as the team's second driver for the 2002 British Touring Car Championship.
His signing today is the result of several months hunting and sorting through the many talented and capable drivers. Ultimately, Team PSP scouts were attracted by Bennett's confident driving style, established, albeit brief, BTCC track record and obvious fan appeal.
"We weren't going to be rushed into this decision," said Team Petronas Principal, Malaysian-based David Wong "and now I'm delighted we have the best possible combination. With so many excellent drivers to choose from, it wasn't an easy decision."
The 30 year old from Kingswinford welcomed the news of his works appointment.
"It's nice to know that hard work and results pay off," said Bennet "This really puts my career on the up."
Both David Leslie and Phil Bennett will meet the press and fans at the forthcoming Autosport Show in Birmingham on Friday January 11. |
