A highly impressed 23 Year old Anthony Kumpen tested Sezio Florida Racing's Norma 2000-01 LMP900 Sports Prototype last week at Roebling Road Circuit, Savannah (USA).
The FIA GT driver has a view to contest the Rolex Daytona 24hours and selected rounds of the American Le Mans Series with the small French team based at Tarpen Springs, Florida. Looking on were Team Principal Edouard Sezionale and Manager Andy Campbell.
Of the test, he commented "This car is a sleeping giant. Even though I drove the team's second string entry for Daytona, which is an older chassis with a BMW Mader tuned engine, in my opinion the car can be developed into a certain top 6 challenger in ALMS".
Setting a very respectable time of 1.08.02 on the 2.2 mile track, he added "I think the car is very easy to drive, and with more power it can be very fast. I drove I guess 50 laps in the car in the 2 days we were in Savannah, and all on old rubber, but with new Goodyear's I think I could have brought my time down another 4 seconds at least".
The team also took the opportunity to shake down their brand new 2000-02 chassis which houses a big block Ford V8 motor.
Regards Daytona, Anthony continued "I would like to do the race with this team, there is no doubt. They are very professional and a great bunch of guys, with experience in such races. I am signed to Carsport Holland for this year's FIA GT but I would like to fit in as many races with Team Sezio as I can".
A decision for the Rolex classis will be made later this week. |
