Zolder 24 Hours |
|
Joost Custers reports that the 24 hours were less than edge of the seat stuff. The GL-PK Viper got away and built up a gigantic lead. Marc Duez, Stephane Cohen and Anthony Kumpen won with more than 20 laps on the Porsche 996 of Geboers, Van Roey and Ooms. The last step on the podium was taken by Vanierschot, Longin and Taels on a normally aspirated Porsche 993, instead of their Turbo version.
The only cars that could follow the very fast Viper during the opening hours were both the Audis of Hemrouille and Alemaki and the RTM Porsche 996 GT3 of Verellen. We saw this car earlier this year finishing at Le Mans. But very early in the evening all contenders were gone or struggling in the pits
So the Viper-team only had to finish and they did, even at a pace of 2.00 per lap. (their fastest was in 1.38).
The championship is about to be decided after this one car show of the GLPK-team and the Viper has now won won all of this year's 24 hour races (overall standings) in the world, exept Le Mans…

Something else: the 24 hour race of Spa, normally the traditional touring car marathon, could be part of the FIA-GT championship next year (I love the idea...), putting the race at Zolder in April or May. |
