Retirement provokes positive thought |
for Littlejohn |

Reading's Tony Littlejohn began his second season in the British GT Championship today (Monday) at Brands Hatch, UK.
But his race was prematurely brought to an end after only 4 laps of the Kent circuit, when the barkes on his Brookspeed Mettoni Chrysler Viper GTS-R failed as he approached the tight Druids Corner.
"It gave me quite a scare. I was approaching the corner at over 100mph and I squeezed the pedal and nothing happened. I tried again a couple of times but by then I couldn't avoid the gravel trap" commented the 33 year old ex Porsche GT driver.
He continued "I only managed a few laps in qualifying but I was quickly at home in the car. It's the first non-Porsche racecar that I've driven and I can honestly say it is awesome. There's so much power and torque, it makes passing other cars so easy.
We suffered a braking problem in the session but overall I was pleased with my first laps in the Mettoni and Perma Clear
Viper, and I secured 6th place on the grid for the race".
The Hampshire based team worked into the early hours of Monday morning in order to rectify the problem but with little track time available to them, they could only wait to see how long their temporary repairs would last.
The 1 hour raced saw the team's efforts quickly rewarded, as after only a handful of laps Tony had moved up 4 positions as his confidence warmed to the 700 plus horsepower that the American supercar has on tap.
"I was disappointed not to have finished. I was getting used to the car with every lap and it is so much fun to drive. Many positive things came from the race. We have identified the problem and I am now focusing on round 2 at Donington Park in 2 weeks time where I am confident we can take the fight to the Lister and co". |
